Fall is almost here and I’m already thinking about how I can transition some of my summer outfits to fall. I grew up in the south where fall moves in very slowly but I have discovered some tips to navigate this fashion problem.
There’s no need to pack all your summer outfits into the back of your closet in September and pull out heavy duty sweaters. With a little mixing and matching of summer and fall pieces you can breeze through the difficult time when it’s fall on the calendar but the weather says summertime. Use these tips to help transition summer outfits to fall!
How to Transition Summer Outfits to Fall
1. Jackets and Long Cardigans
You can still wear those short sleeve or sleeveless summer dresses that you love but add a blazer, jean or leather jacket. Doing so gives a nice layered look and a long cardigan paired with a summer dress can up your summer to fall outfit game.
2. Booties, Booties, Booties!
Booties give off a great fall vibe with dresses while also allowing you to keep your legs bare for those warmer fall days. I’ve linked a few of my favorite booties below.
3. White Jeans and Neutral Sweaters
If you’re dying to wear those adorable white jeans after labor day but want a fall look? Pair them with a neutral cozy sweater and some booties to embrace fall with a classic look. If it is still warm out then wear a lighter weight neutral sweater and pushing up the sleeves is also a cute look on a warmer days.
4. Tights/Leggings
Tights paired with a short sleeve dress gives off a fall preppy look without weighing you down. Leggings, the popular sister of tights, are also adorable with a summer tunic and booties. On the flip side, if you wear a long sleeve heavier dress then go bare legged during this time.
5. Scarves
Scarves are one of my favorite accessories all year round but especially helpful during this transition from fall to summer. Find some lightweight scarves in some autumn colors that will carry your lighter weight outfits right into fall. Don’t forget a cute little felt hat to top off your look!
6. Layers
Layers, besides adding depth to an outfit can really elevate a look right into autumn. Sleeveless vests are adorable with short sleeve or three quarter length tee shirts and can be a great look for lots of autumn activities such as apple picking and bonfires. Don’t forget you can also layer long sleeved tees or button ups under summer dresses for a trendy look that covers your arms when it starts to get chillier.
7. Boots
Forgotten boots are unfortunately hidden in our closet until winter and should come out and play during this transition time.
I especially like the look of boots with shorts and off the shoulder sweaters and knee high boots with short dresses. I wear a lot of hunter boots with my outfits during this transition time because of Georgia’s rainy weather!
8. Fall Colors
This is a great time to start adding fall colors to your wardrobe.. Some of my favorite colors this season are cinnamon, olive, camel, and of course navy. Start slowly during this transition to pick up accent pieces through accessories such as purses or belts. Tops in fall colors are a great way to get autumn feel with your basic jeans, pants and skirts.
I love all things fall. I love the colors, the smells and pumpkin spice everything. Fall evokes memories of fun times and smells with the family and friends. Don’t hesitate to get your fall vibe on even if the weather is not cooperating. I hope these tips help you smoothly transition from summer outfits to fall. What are your favorite things about fall?
