Hi friends! This week has flown by! Probably because it was a short week at work (yay for fall break!) but I am so excited for this weekend. T and I have been extremely busy the past few weeks and haven’t had much time together so we are planning a date night for this weekend! Our date nights usually consist of dinner (typically sushi or Mexican) and then a movie at Cinebistro. I am in “teacher clothes” during the week so I like to dress up for date night.
When I go looking for date night options, I want to find something stylish and cute without breaking the bank. I found this entire outfit at Dress Up for less than $100 (excluding the sunglasses)! I have a Dress Up directly under my apartment (much to T’s dismay) and I love stopping in a few times a week to check out their new arrivals. They have 14 locations across the Southeast. If you do not live close to a Dress Up, fear not, they are online and ship! When I go shopping, I usually follow the one third rule for the majority of my outfits. What is the one third rule you ask? Well, I like to think that an outfit should show off one of the following:
- Your legs
- Your chest
- Your silhouette
If you are showing off one, the other two should be covered up. This dress is showing off my legs so my chest and silhouette are covered. The one third rule increases the versatility of an outfit. When you follow the one third rule you can dress up or down any outfit easily. To dress down this outfit I could throw on a cross body bag and boots and it would be the perfect outfit for a trip to the farmers market or mall.
There are always exceptions to every rule. If I’m going to a New Years Eve party I might follow the two thirds rule and if I’m going to a bachelorette party I might even follow the three thirds rule (ha!). I love this dress because it’s extremely comfortable (and loose for when I eat one too many tacos) but also very feminine.
I also have the hardest time finding nude shoes because it’s difficult matching a nude to my skin tone. Are the shoes too tan, too brown, too yellow, or too orange for my skin? Ever since I moved away from the Sunshine State I have been on the paler side and needed a lighter nude. These shoes were the perfect nude for my vampire skin. The best part? They are under $35. Major steal. I’ve linked the outfit below in case you want to grab your own date night or girls night outfit!
