Happy New Year Friends! I hope everyone had a great time ringing in 2017 with friends and family. T and I spent the day watching football with friends and then grilled out while waiting for the ball to drop. The past few years I have enjoyed having lower key NYEs and this year was no different.
I have never been a huge fan of New Year’s resolutions but I do LOVE setting goals.
I think there’s a negative stigma around New Year’s resolutions in that people will set their resolutions for the new year and then those resolutions fall to the wayside by Valentine’s Day.
Instead, I like to reflect back on the year and pick a few attainable goals that I can set and measure for the new year. So today I am sharing with you my goals for 2017:
Time Management – There are SO many things I want to do in a day and I want to use my time more efficiently. I read an article by Lauryn Evarts where she talks about time blocking so I asked for a time cube for Christmas and will be utilizing time blocking throughout the day. I will schedule out my day the night before and use time blocking to stay on track – I’ll let you know how it works out for me!
Schedule Workouts – The past few months I have not been as active as I would like to be. Before my wedding, I was working out at least 5 days a week and I felt great. Now I am working out 2-3 times a week and it’s really not enough. I realized my downfall is not scheduling out my workouts ahead of time.
This is how I’m successful working out: “I am going to workout tomorrow.” Signs up for class online, packs workout clothes, snack, and water bottle.
This is how I am not successful for working out “I am going to workout tomorrow.” Goes home after school with every intention of working out, sits down, starts online shopping, finds a Catfish marathon on tv, “Oh wait it’s 9 pm already?”
I plan on aiming for working out five days a week.
Sleep More – When I am stressed or busy, sleep is my first sacrifice and then I become more stressed. It’s a vicious cycle. I am someone who needs 8 or 9 hours of sleep to be a civil and functioning human being. I know this about myself and yet I stay up late on the computer, on my phone, hanging out with T, or reading. I found this new “bedtime” feature on my phone that alerts me an hour before I want to go to bed so I can start winding down. My goal is to go to bed before 10 on weeknights.
Drink More Water – This has been a constant goal of mine since as long as I can remember. I never used to think too much about drinking water but after I started tracking my water intake I realized how dehydrated I must be. I am constantly having to push myself to drink water and track my water to make sure I’m getting enough. If I don’t, I just don’t drink and end up feeling drained before the day is over. I will track my water to make sure I get at least 65 ounces of water a day.
Food Prep – I am planning more posts on this but the one thing I have discovered that keeps my healthy eating on track is to food prep on weekends. It is life changing. I stopped food prepping over the holidays and plan to start up again now that they are over.
What are your goals/resolutions for the new year? I’d love to hear them!
