Today I’m going to be sharing with you the “hack” that got me interested in meal prep. I LOVE drinking smoothies in the mornings. I love that they energize you and you can sneak in so many nutritious ingredients (like kale) into something that tastes so delicious.
The only problem I had was how long it takes to get out all of the ingredients in the mornings, measure them out, make the smoothie and still get to work on time. I needed to find a way to cut the times down in the morning but still be able to enjoy my fresh smoothie. I tried making them ahead of time and storing them in mason jars but if I stored them in the refrigerator, they were too watery and if I stored them in the freezer, they were frozen solid.
Then I did some research and discovered smoothie bags. My life was changed. Each Sunday, I’d line up five bags and get all of my ingredients out. Then I’d go down the line and add 4 cups of spinach to each bag (2 for me and 2 for T – I make double so he can have one too), my berries, banana, flaxseed, and protein powder. Then in the mornings before work, I add the almond milk to my blender, dump the frozen smoothie bag in, blend and it’s done. I pour my half into a to go cup and put T’s on the counter for him when he wakes up (he’s very spoiled).
Below I’ve posted my go to smoothie recipe for smoothie bags. I put my smoothie bags in the freezer because I like my smoothies more solid, but if you prefer them more “liquidy” you can keep them in the fridge.
You can use whatever smoothie recipe you’d like, so please feel free to share your favorites! I’m always looking for new recommendations.
